Oystercatchers
With their black and white feathers, long red bill and pinky-red legs the oystercatcher is unmistakable. The oystercatcher is very noisy with a loud ‘peep-ing’ call. They can be found on the coast and lochs all over the Highlands, they specialise in eating shellfish, particularly cockles and mussels, which they either prise or hammer open with their strong, flattened bills. They are such characters!
